Veteran-Owned Quality Service
About Us — CNY Tree Service LLC
Our Story
Hi, I’m Tom Kaczynski, founder of CNY Tree Service LLC. I grew up in Maine, NY, joined the U.S. Army right after the 9/11 attacks, and spent years mastering the twin arts of discipline and decisive action. When I returned home, friends and neighbors kept asking me to help clear storm-damaged trees, prune old sugar maples, or haul logs that local crews deemed “too risky.” I saw an opportunity to blend my passion for the outdoors with the military work ethic that had been forged into my DNA.
What started as a one-man pickup-and-chainsaw operation has evolved—over two decades—into a fully insured, state-licensed tree service company with six highly trained professionals, more than forty-eight years of combined experience, and a fleet of modern equipment designed to tackle everything from backyard fruit-tree pruning to high-hazard crane removals beside power lines. We’ve safely removed or preserved 1,200 + trees across Broome, Tioga, and surrounding counties, and we’re just getting started.
Mission & Values
Our mission is simple: protect people and property while preserving the trees that make our communities livable. We pursue that mission through five core values:
- Safety First – No shortcut is worth a single injury. We follow ANSI Z133 and OSHA guidelines on every site, every time.
- Service Before Self – A lesson the military taught me: take care of the team and the mission; profits will follow.
- Integrity in Every Cut – Whether we’re trimming a branch or signing a permit application, honesty guides the process.
- Relentless Training – From TCIA aerial-rescue drills to CDL refresher courses, learning never stops.
- Community Commitment – We live here, work here, and volunteer here. Our success means nothing if Main Street doesn’t benefit too.
Who We Serve
- Homeowners who want healthy, beautiful trees without the weekend-warrior gamble.
- Business owners who need storefronts, parking lots, and signage kept clear and safe.
- Commercial & Industrial managers responsible for multi-acre campuses, distribution centers, or utility easements where downtime costs real money.
Whether you call for tree removal, tree trimming, stump grinding, emergency tree service, or a routine tree inspection, our approach adjusts to your unique goals, budget, and risk tolerance.
Name | Role | Super-Power |
---|---|---|
Tom Kaczynski | Owner & Lead Climber | Makes a plan faster than most people find their gloves. |
Wendy K. | Office Manager | Turns frantic 2 a.m. storm calls into calm, scheduled solutions. |
Jason “J-Rig” R. | Crane & Grapple-Saw Operator | Can thread a 100-ft pine through a 6-ft gap without breaking a sweat. |
Maria S. | Certified Ground Crew Lead | Keeps the job site cleaner than your living room. |
Alex P. | Stump Grinding & Turf Restoration Tech | Leaves lawns so level you’d swear the stump was never there. |
Derrick L. | Safety & Training Coordinator | Walks onto a new site and sees hazards nobody else notices. |
Our small size is deliberate. Every crew member knows every machine, and everyone has the authority to call a safety timeout. That level of trust lets us finish jobs in hours that take larger companies days.
Equipment & Technology
- 70-ft Bucket Truck – Reaches over garages and rooflines without rutting lawns.
- Remote-Control Grapple Saw – Removes high-risk limbs from the ground, keeping climbers safe.
- Spider Lift – Squeezes through 36-inch gates for backyard access without turf damage.
- Tracked & Tow-Behind Stump Grinders – Pulverize stumps 6–12 inches below grade, even on steep slopes.
- Whole-Tree Drum Chipper – Converts up to 18-inch logs into mulch in seconds, slashing haul-off time.
- GPS-Enabled Fleet – Real-time routing means faster arrival and lower fuel emissions.
We reinvest heavily in machinery because newer tech isn’t just shinier—it’s safer, faster, and more cost-effective for you.
Safety & Training
- ANSI A300 pruning standards guide every cut.
- ANSI Z133 safety standards govern personal protective equipment, drop zones, and aerial operations.
- TCIA EHAP certification equips us to work around energized conductors and coordinate with utility providers.
- Weekly tailgate briefings review near-misses, tool maintenance, and site-specific hazards.
- Annual third-party audits verify compliance with state and federal regulations.
Because we’re veteran-owned, after-action reviews are second nature. When a job ends, we dissect what went right, what went wrong, and how tomorrow can be better.
Environmental Stewardship
Trees are living infrastructure, and with climate threats rising, professional stewardship matters more than ever. Here’s how we contribute:
- Selective Pruning Over Removal – We preserve first, cut last.
- On-Site Mulch Recycling – Chips nourish plant beds and reduce landfill waste.
- Carbon-Offset Replant Program – For every tree we remove, we subsidize sapling planting through our local Rotary Club.
- Low-Emission Equipment – Tier-4 diesel engines and synthetic-blend bar oils minimize our footprint.
We’re proof that responsible forestry and robust safety can coexist with a healthy bottom line.
Community Involvement
- Habitat for Humanity – Annual donation of labor to clear lots for new home builds.
- Broome County Veterans Fund – Percentage of every December invoice supports local vets facing housing insecurity.
- Youth Sports Sponsorships – Uniforms for Little League, halftime tree-climbing demos at high-school games.
- Storm-Relief Volunteer Crews – When disasters outpace insurance timelines, we donate hours to clear critical access routes.
Giving back isn’t a marketing ploy; it’s a civic duty.
What Sets Us Apart
Documented Workflows – Photo reports before, during, and after every job—perfect for insurance records or corporate audits.
Veteran Discipline – Schedules aren’t suggestions; they’re commitments.
Grandma-Level Care – Our guiding mantra: treat each property as if it belonged to our own grandmother.
Transparent Pricing – Itemized proposals, no hidden dump fees, and phased-work options for budget flexibility.
Round-the-Clock Readiness – Live dispatch answers your call 24/7/365; no answering machines, ever.
Looking Ahead
We’re expanding our service area deeper into Tioga and Chenango counties and investing in drone-based canopy inspections to spot hazards before they’re visible from the ground. Our goal for next year is to double our training hours while reducing on-site job times by 15 % through smarter logistics and technology.
